Accommodation properties in Western Australia’s mining communities are finding their rooms close to full while tourist towns are struggling to attract guests. According to results from the latest ABS Survey of Tourist Accommodation, occupancy in WA’s northwest reaches record levels with 91 percent hotel occupancy while tourism locations like Bussleton sat at 41 percent over the September quarter, Australian Mining reported. WA Tourism Council chief executive Evan Hall told media that data indicated that tourism regions were “falling behind”. Meanwhile Australian Hotels Association WA chief Bradley Woods added that more needed to be done to promote the tourism sector. He explained that up to $27 million was required in the WA market, to build and promote destinations to the east coast as well as international travellers. |
