Qantas international surcharges and domestic fares will once again increase due to high global fuel prices. From April 5 the average fare increase on Qantas and QantasLink flights will be 5 percent, depending on the route and fare class. Qantas Frequent Flyer’s will also be affected as surcharges on Classic Award redemption tickets will increase by $4 domestically and $10 for Trans-Tasman flights. This is the second increase in the space of two months by the Qantas Group, after announcing increases in fuel surcharges in February. Jetstar are also poised to increase surcharges within the Singapore and Australian markets due to the hike in fuel costs. The Qantas Group expects fuel costs to continue to rise by approximately $300 million to $2.3 billion during the second half of the 2011/2012 financial year. |
