Flooding and strong winds continue to impact travel to and from Fiji with Smart Traveller maintaining ‘reconsider your need to travel’ advice for the region’s Western Division of Viti Levu, including Nadi and the Coral Coast. The Pacific islands of Fiji were issued cyclone warnings yesterday and the Fijian government requested that all inbound flights remain passenger-free. The embargo was lifted later that afternoon and airlines, such as Air Pacific operated on reduced schedules. Subject to weather conditions and crew availability, Air Pacific intends to operate the following international inbound and outbound flights today (3 April 2011). Inbound (Flights coming into Nadi) Air Pacific flight FJ261 from Nadi to Port Vila and Honiara and the return leg has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in that region. Tomorrow’s (April 4) full schedule has not been released but Air Pacific intends to operate the following services. Inbound (Flights coming into Nadi) Passengers with queries, questions or who need to re-book can contact Air Pacific Reservations and visit the Travel Alerts website for further information. Meanwhile, Virgin Australia said it will continue to operate scheduled services to Nadia, Fiji from Australia but encouraged guests to reconsider their travel options. “While many resorts remain open, there is sustained damage from the storms and cyclonic weather,” the airline said. The airline said it will also offer flexible travel amendments for guests booked to travel to and from Fiji from 30 March to 4 April this year. Air New Zealand cancelled its 7:45am A320 service from Auckland-Nadi-Auckland (NZ752/NZ753). The scheduled flight was replaced with a larger Boeing 777-300 aircraft, more than doubling the number of seats available in both directions. Passengers booked on the previously cancelled A320 services have been re-booked on the later flight. The Air New Zealand 747-400, which flew to Nadi yesterday without passengers returned to Auckland that evening with 260 passengers on board.
