Google is set to purchase the rights to the Frommer’s brand of travel guides and books. Publisher John Wiley & Sons Inc. sold Google the Frommer’s collection, including other travel-related businesses for an undisclosed amount. Google purchased Zagat Survey approximately one year ago in its ongoing bid to grow the largest archive of digital reviews, maps, local listings and mobile applications. Google said the Frommer's purchase - which includes more than 300 guidebooks - would complement its aim to provide “a review for every relevant place in the world,” according to The Guardian UK. “The Frommer's team and the quality and scope of their content will be a great addition to the Zagat team,” said a spokesperson for Google. John Wiley & Sons Inc. said the Frommer's brand did not fit with the company’s future strategy and has made plans to offload several other brands, including Webster's New World and CliffsNotes. Arthur Frommer published his first guidebook, ‘Europe on $5 a day’ in 1957. Google unveiled its first travel product; the airline schedule feature, ‘Flight Search’ last year.
