Sabre grows LCC portfolio with new business

Government-owned Mihin Lanka, a budget carrier from Sri Lanka, has signed a distribution deal with Sabre Travel Network, thereby giving its product global reach.

Meanwhile, Sabre Travel Network’s low-cost carrier portfolio continues to expand with the addition of Sri Lanka’s Mihin Lanka.

The government-owned airline, which begun operations in 2007, has signed up for Sabre’s Standard Connect with e-ticketing capabilities.

“In the sphere of budget travel and in an era where competition is rife, Mihin Lanka has made an impressionable impact in the travel market not only in Sri Lanka but in the immediate region as well. I’m sure this strategic tie-up for distribution with Sabre Travel Network will enable Mihin Lanka to further extend its reach globally. I wish this alliance, which will benefit both parties immensely, much success for the future,” said CEO of Mihin Lanka, Kapila Chandrasena.

Mihin Lanka operates its international flights from Bandaranaike International Airport and currently flies to eight destinations and code shares with Sri Lankan operated flights in the Far east, Middle East and the Indian Sub continent.

“Sabre has been rapidly growing its LCC portfolio globally as we see these carriers start to invest more confidently in technology to support its steep growth. We are confident that Mihin Lanka will also expand quickly, and Sabre’s technology will be on hand to support that growth,” said Hans Belle, Vice President and General Manager APAC for Sabre.

Mihin Lanka currently operates an all Airbus fleet and plans to expand its fleet further, adding flights to Madurai, Delhi and Kathmandu during the winter schedule.
