Qantas Airbus A380 damaged when its engine exploded has cost Qantas insurers A$150million to fix

Qantas Airbus A380 which was damaged when its engine exploded shortly after take-off from Singapore on 04 November 2010 has been repaired at a cost of AU$150 million.

The Airbus A380 was severely damaged when a faulty oil pipe fractured in a port-side Rolls-Royce engine caused it to catch fire and explode, The West Australian reported.

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the cost of repairing the damaged aircraft may have been the most expensive in aviation history.

Airbus started its repairs to the A380 aircraft in May with the help of up to 50 technicians from the Singapore International Airlines Engineering Company (SIAE) and Qantas staff in a SIAE hanger.

In other Qantas news the airlines offshoot Jetstar could face fines if claims are confirmed that it hired trainee pilots from New Zealand on individual contracts but withheld paying them superannuation and charged them for training in Australia.
