The Australian Federal court has handed Malaysia Airlines a $6 million fine for price fixing on its air freight business.

Announced this morning, The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said the airline admitted to organising deals with other international airlines on deliveries from Indonesia between 2001 and 2005, ABC News reported.

The ACCC said the latest fine brought total penalties on this case up to $58 million since launching the investigation in April 2010, a record high on its cases.

"This penalty sees the total penalties ordered against this international cartel increase to a record $58 million," ACCC chairman Rod Sims said.

"These penalties are the highest generated by a single ACCC investigation."

Other airlines involved include Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways.
