What drew you to work in the travel industry? I essentially grew up in the travel industry as my father worked at Qantas. Being able to travel on a regular basis at an early age the industry became a part of my life and it was a natural choice to work in tourism. What do you like most about your job? I have an opportunity to work with a fantastic team of professionals and I have an opportunity to meet and interact with many exciting people from all walks of life on a regular basis. Having been around for 32 years I am still as enthusiastic today as I was when I first started, no two days are ever the same. Who do you admire and see as a role model in the travel industry? Every person can be a role model: in a positive and negative way. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and it's about recognising the "likes" and "dislikes". I have been very fortunate to be able to work with many outstanding individuals in our industry. I guess the one person I really do admire is Sir Richard Branson, he is a true pioneer and has overcome many obstacles to achieve what he has achieved today. What do you want to see improve in the industry? A better general understanding of our industry and the many people who contribute to it. I believe that tourism is not properly understood in Australia. What destinations are on your travel bucket list? I have been very fortunate and travelled the world as well as had the opportunity to live and work overseas. An area which has always fascinated me is Antarctica, I would love to experience this one day. What's a memorable travel experience you've had (good or bad)? All journeys should be an experience whether good or bad, this is what travel is all about. However, one in particular was Nong Kai and Udon Thani in North Eastern Thailand, an amazing area and just wonderful people. I drove from Bangkok to Nong Kai which was amazing, great roads, lots to see and do and just beautiful scenery. Issan in Thailand is a very special area and unique in terms of the people, scenery and food. What are three things you must always take with you when you travel? A picture of my daughter goes with me everywhere, I must take my iPhone, not just to keep in contact but to capture photos along the way and my sense of humour. Name someone famous with whom you'd like to travel and where you'd take them. I would like to join an adventure to Antarctica with Sir Richard Branson, this would be an awesome experience. |
