NYC hopes its vibrancy will resonate with the Mexican traveler

Looking to take advantage of a continuing surge in visitor numbers from Mexico, NYC & Company has announced that it will be investing “millions of dollars” in marketing its city to the region.

With almost 400,000 Mexican travelers expected to hit New York City this year alone, tourism from Mexico to the Big Apple has risen by nearly 100 percent since 2005.

And the figures aren’t lost on the city’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, who this week underlined its commitment to the burgeoning source market.

“Today, we’re pleased to announce that we are investing millions of dollars in marketing and advertising assets to further develop travel from Mexico to New York City in the months and years ahead – the result will be increased visitation from Mexico, more jobs for our local tourism industry and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact,” NYC & Company chief executive George Fertitta said in Mexico City, where the organization has just opened a new tourism and promotional office.

NYC & Company expects its marketing investment in Mexico, now New York City’s tenth largest international market, to generate “hundreds of millions” of dollars in revenue for the city.
