In a city full of luxury hotels, the intimate Ca' Sagredo holds its own against its larger rivals, offering accommodation in one of Venice's famous private palazzos in a splendid location right on the Grand Canal.  While the setting and views out the window are among the hotel's bets features, the views within the building are no less beautiful.  With grand rooms full of historic decorative detail and a magnificent Staircase Of The Giants ascending to the traditional piano nobile on the first floor, Ca' Sagredo impresses both inside and out.  Though some of the salons on the piano nobile have been transformed into rooms and suites, others are public rooms where the splendour of a Venetian palace can be appreciated for hours and hours by in-house guests; the ornate ceilings of the grand salon and the music room are matched even in the breakfast room.

Located on Campo Santa Sofia just next to the city's famous Ca' d'Oro, Ca' Sagredo is situated in a handy location for exploring the museums and neighbourhoods of northern Venice where crowds of the ilk packing St Mark's Square are somewhat less fearsome in size.  With the Venice urban transport network's Ca' d'Oro boat stop just next to the hotel, getting around the inner city and beyond to Giudecca and Lido is very easy.  Just across the Grand Canal is Ca' Pesaro, an art space displaying surprisingly modern works that would never be imagined when looking at the old palace from the outside.  The building (Ca' is the Venetian form of the Italian casa, which means house) is also home to Venice's Museum Of Oriental Art, where a diverse collection evokes the essence of Asia thanks to one Prince Enrico di Borbone, who amassed a private hoard of Asian arts that became the basis for the museum's inventory.  With more than 30,000 objects, the Museum Of Oriental Art would easily transport Venetian favourite son Marco Polo back to his trips to the Far East, if only nostalgically.
