Sofitel, Sydney

Monday, 10 September 2012

Although located in the heart of Sydney, the soul of the property is locked in its friendly service, modern decor and open environment.

Location:

Forget waving down taxis and waiting it out at a bus stop, staying at the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney will place you within five minutes walking distance of everything and anything you’ll want to see or do in the Australian city.

More specifically, the Sofitel Sydney is a short walk away from the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, the ocean and boats in Circular Quay, the buzzing cafés in Martin Place and the bright lights of the city’s nightlife on George St.

Check-in:

Arriving at 2.00pm, my room on the fifteenth floor was ready for me to drop off my gear and head out for the opening speeches at the inaugural Luxperience event in Sydney.

Staff at the check-in desk was extremely sweet, informative and efficient.

Room:

The room was cosy, the perfect size for a business traveller or a couple looking for a short-break.

The mini-bar was stocked with all the favourites from Coca-Cola, Pringles and Ferrero Rochers.

Dining:

The hotel’s in-room dining included the traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner menu as well as a Late Night Dining option running from 11.30pm to 6.00am and a Little Guest’s Menu for the visitors aged 12 and under.

My personal recommendation: put aside the menu, call the kitchen and ask for one spoon of the chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce = divine!

Favourite thing:

I really liked the touch of French in everything the Sofitel does – from décor to staffing etiquette but my favourite thing about the hotel are the conveniently but discreetly located electricity outlets.

As a business traveller I’m constantly travelling with three or four items that need regular charging. My pet peeve is having to charge them one at a time because the hotel room is not properly equipped to meet the modern day business traveller.

The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is definitely up-to-speed with the needs of the MICE industry, fitting up to six electrical outlets in the room alone. Merci’ Sofitel!
