Holland America’s ms Veendam is the last place that 71-year-old American tourist Sarah Tessier Powell was seen on 30 September following the ship’s departure from Quebec City.

Atlantic CTV News reports that Ms Powell was travelling alone with police believing she bypassed security and disembarked in either Charlottetown or Sydney.

Crew reported the passenger missing on 4 October ahead of ms Veendam’s arrival in Halifax.

“There were some items on board the ship in her cabin, but there were some items missing, leaving us to believe she left on her own accord with no intention of coming back to the ship,” Constable Pierre Bourdages said.

“We do not believe she would have fallen off the ship or met with foul play on the ship.”

The investigation continues with police requesting any information to be directed to Halifax Regional Police.
