Norfolk Island is Jazzing Up it's Short-Breaks

Tuesday, 20 November 2012

Norfolk Island, the perfect short-break Island destination, is inviting all Jazz fans to the annual Jazz in the Pines Festival this December - only a 2 hour flight away with Air New Zealand!

From the 03rd to 07th December Norfolk Island will be host to an Island-wide celebration of Jazz, as thirteen top Jazz musicians fly in to join with local bands to create the annual Jazz in the Pines Festival.

This seriously hot jazz line-up includes Neilsen Gough Quartet, Rick Robertson and the Feral Swing Katz. James Morrison famed Jazz performer says of Neilsen - "Noone else in the world can both sing and play the trumpet as well as Neilsen".

Rick Roberston is well known for his work with internationally acclaimed acid jazz band d.i.g. and more recently with the Eon Beats Project and Rick Robertson Trio. Rick has Norfolk Island pulsing through his blood. He was born on Norfolk and is a descendant of the famed mutineer Fletcher Christian. Rick's sublime vocal and brilliant saxophone is sure to impress.

Ferral Swing Katz is best described as wild, wonderful and groovy. Their signature sound is a blend of 40s' Swing, Classic Country with a touch of Jazz otherwise known as "Western Swing".

Also, performing for the first time is one of 'Australia's Got Talent' hot favourites, Liam Burrows. Liam's vibrant personality was a feature of the last Australia's Got Talent and Liam came very close to taking out the main prize.

Renowned for attracting top performers the 2012 Jazz in the Pines festival won't disappoint. And to make the most of their short-break, visitors can relax over a famous "Vineyard Platter", enjoyed with a local glass or two, on the Cellar Door verandah at the Two Chimney's Winery; learn to cook like a chef with Hilli's Restaurant & Wine Bar Mastering Taste Cooking Tour; try their best swing at the Norfolk Island Golf Course, dramatically situated along the rugged coastline.

With the warmer weather here to stay, now is the time to snorkel in Emily Bay, exploring around the islands historic salt farms from under the turquoise water or escape for the afternoon at one of the many picnic spots along the cliff tops, accompanied with a picnic basket from the REO Café at the Museums.

Combine this seriously groovy line up with the unique Norfolk Island setting and you have the ingredients for an extraordinary jazz week you won't want to miss!
