More tourism, more jobs: MyCareer

Wednesday, 21 November 2012

More than 134,000 new jobs are expected to be added in the Australian market in the year to August 2013 and the tourism and hospitality sector is expected to contribute to the rise.

According to the bi-annual MyCareer Employment Forecast, in the year to May 2013, despite “big falls” in jobs during 2012, the tourism industry will see a 1.1 percent increase in jobs in the year to May 2013.

As well more employment opportunities, the increase in domestic trips, overnight and interstate visitors numbers, international expenditure and accommodation revenues will also push-up the national average wage and salaries in the sector by 2.5 percent.

“While the outlook varies from industry to industry and state to state there is overall positive news that the numbers of jobs being created in the next 12 months will be more than the past year,” MyCareer general manager Paul Kitchin said.

“In that business environment recruiting the best people will remain a key priority for all companies.”
