• Successful Picasso to Warhol exhibition attracted more than 100,000 visitors
• More than 150 photographs by 90 artists to be on display in Picturing New York
• Second instalment of exclusive 3-year partnership between MoMA and AGWA 

As the highly successful Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters closes, the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s MoMA Series will next year bring the second exhibition from New York’s Museum of Modern Art to Perth.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today announced more than 100,000 visitors experienced the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view 120 modern masterpieces by 14 of the world’s most inspiring and influential artists in Perth.

“It is indeed sad to see these wonderful works head back home, but the gallery is working towards the launch of the second instalment in the MoMA Series and this next exhibition promises to be a perfect complement to its first offering,” Mr Day said.

“Opening on Australia Day, Picturing New York: Photographs from The Museum of Modern Art is set to attract visitors to the gallery who not only have a passion for photography or New York, but those who are also curious to know more about either.”

The Minister said the photographic department at MoMA holds more than 25,000 works and is considered to be one of the world’s most important photographic collections. 

“Drawn exclusively from this world-class collection, Picturing New York documents more than a century of change in a ‘city that never sleeps’,” he said.

“This is a rare opportunity for visitors to see not only famous photographs by some of the world’s most legendary photographers, but to also witness equally impressive works from lesser-known artists.”

The arrival of Picturing New York will be celebrated at a gala opening on Friday, January 25.
