A new team has been formed with the duty to develop an industry-led accreditation scheme designed replace the outgoing Travel Compensation Fund (TCF). Earlier this month, State and Federal Consumer Affairs Ministers confirmed the TCF would be phased-out over the next two years and replaced with a new and relevant consumer protection body. Moving ahead with the new body, a group of seven industry leaders were selected at a recent AFTA board meeting to form the Travel Industry Transition Plan Working Group (TITPWG), Tasked with the responsibility of representing the industry and develop the new scheme, AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury said the group selected offered “diverse experience” and in consultation with the government’s TITP will create a scheme that is “fit for purpose and delivers value for travel agents across Australia”. The group’s members include; Travelscene American Express chief executive Mike Thompson, Flight Centre company secretary David Smith, Jetset Travelworld chief financial officer Elizabeth Gaines, American Express Business Travel general manager Trena Blair, Phil Hoffman Travel owner Phil Hoffman, Magellan Travel Group’s chief executive Andrew McFarlane as well as AFTA head Jayson Westbury. In addition to the team of seven, Mr Westbury said a broader consultative committee, the Travel Industry Transition Plan Working Group Supplier Consultative Committee (TITPWGSCC), has also been established to embrace the views of suppliers and other stakeholders. “It is critical that we get this right and over the coming six or so months I am sure that together the travel industry can create something that works for everyone,” Mr Westbury added. Attention travel agents, do you think the TITPWG will successfully represent you and your agency? |
