Despite having travelled the world, an elite group of Australia travel advisors have chosen their own country as the most-desirable place to celebrate the New Year.

A survey of Virtuoso highly experienced travel agencies across Australia found fireworks and a “vibrant atmosphere” placing Sydney at the top of the list of places to spend New Year’s Eve.

New York came in second, with its snow and Times Square ‘ball-drop’, followed closely by the 'City of Lights', Paris and the ski slopes of Europe.

Virtuoso manager Australia Julie Denovan said survey results were a testament to Sydney’s “spectacular” New Year’s offering.
