Manly Beach, home to more than 100 years of surf heritage and the host of the first World Surfing Championships in 1964, will once again welcome professional surfers from all over the world in February to participate in the inaugural Australian Open of Surfing event.

A mixed crowd of surfers, tourists and Sydney-siders are expected to descend on the beautiful Manly beach from 11 February to 19 February.  The free nine-day event not only showcases some of the best surfers from around the globe, but also includes a Skate Bowl featuring the world’s best skateboarders and live concerts featuring some of Australia’s top musicians.

“The Inaugural Australian Open of Surfing will reinforce Manly Beach and Sydney’s reputation as a top surfing destination not just for pro-surfers, but for any traveler interested in a vibrant coastal lifestyle and all the activities that go along with that,” chief executive officer at Destination New South Wales Sandra Chipchase said.

Ms Chipchase describes Manly Beach as a gem in Sydney, with this event showcasing the destination not only for its unbelievable surf location but for the surf lifestyle, a hub of live music, great restaurants, shopping, museums and art.

Event sponsors Hurley and Billabong have partnered with Destination New South Wales to bring the event to Manly Beach.

While the surfing will be the main attraction, tourists who are not keen to watch the competition can experience other activities the area offers including waterfront dining and nightlife, contemporary fashion boutiques, museums and adventure activities.
