TA exposes Aus cruising across waters

Friday, 27 April 2012

Tourism Australia has launched a new online training model to educate international travel agents on the benefits of cruising around Australia.

Unveiled today at travel agency conference, cruise3sixty, Aussie Specialist Cruise Module was designed to support the AU$30 million cruise sector as well as help agents learn the berthing points across Australia and the pre and post touring options.

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy explained the new online modules would enhance knowledge of the 3,600 registered agents across North America selling Australia to international visitors everyday.

“Cruising is the fastest growing sector of the Australian tourism market in Australia, with 24 per cent average yearly growth over the last five years, fast outpacing many of our international competitor destinations,” he said.

“As an island, we’re lucky to have access points for cruise ships right around our country, welcoming visitors into the most beautiful harbours and docks in the world.

“We had involvement from seven of our state and territory tourism partners in creating touring itineraries for passengers, and with their involvement we can ensure that cruise passengers are motivated and interested in leaving the ships and discovering Australia’s beautiful surrounding regions.”

Earlier this week Tourism Australia also unveiled a new website encouraging Aussie travel agents to update their knowledge of indigenous travel experiences.
