Flight Review: Royal Jordanian - Bangkok to Amman

Wednesday, 6 June 2012

Flight Details:
Royal Jordanian Airbus A330
Flight number RJ 183
4 June 2012 at 00.30
Bangkok to Amman Seat no. 7K (window)

Check in and Luggage Allowance:

Luggage was checked through from Sydney and the standard 20kg of luggage allowance applied. As soon as we landed, we made our way to the transfer desk, which was quite a fair walk away from the gate we arrived at. Within the two hour transit, there was ample of time to obtain our boarding pass for the second leg of our journey, do a bit of shopping and grab a quick coffee before boarding our flight to Amman.

Seat / Cabin conditions: (pitch, width, seat configuration, comfort, decor)

Seat configuration – 2-4-2 in the first section
The aircraft was quite old and comfort level was about 5 /10. Seats were narrower than the prior Thai Airways flight and didn’t recline back as far. Seat covers were slight worn and cleanliness of the stowaway tables needed a proper wipe-down. Pillows were a bit flat and most were seen unused and thrown on the floor, although I thought it served its purpose. Leg room was very minimal and stretching was not something one can do without having to stand up or have a walk.

Customer Service

Cabin crew were very polite and courteous.

Meal & Snack Service

For the first meal, we had three choices - chicken in red curry with rice and steamed vegetables, beef with potatoes and mixed vegetables or shrimp and rice. I opted for shrimp and rice this time and was quite disappointed with the dish. It was literally plain shrimp on a bed of rice with some salt sprinkled over the top. Bread was stone, but the salad was nice and fresh. Perhaps next time, one should go with the dish that guarantees flavour – the curry.
The second meal was breakfast, served 1.30hrs before landing. The serving included juice, fruit salad and a croissant and bread both of which were again stone cold. Looking around, most of the bread and croissant were left untouched by the other passengers as well.

Entertainment:

Entertainment in the movies options included a range of old classics and new releases including One for the money, The Rum Diary, Breakfast at Tiffany’s a range of world movies, cartoons and comedy hits. Due to the time of the flight, most people opted to sleep than indulge in some flicks.

On time performance:

We took off on time and arrived five minutes ahead of the scheduled 5.05 am arrival into Amman.
Landing was superbly smooth.

Flight frequency:

Royal Jordanian operates regular flights from Bangkok to Amman.
