Help yourself to complimentary tea and coffee at MUC's Lufthansa Terminal |
 |
Outside, the M lets you know you're at MUC. Inside, it's obvious |
Carrier: Lufthansa
Flight Number: LH 1927 departing Naples @ 11:55 connecting to LH 2074 departing Munich @ 15:35
Duration: NAP-MUC 1:45; MUC-HAM 1:15
Class: Economy
Configuration: Airbus A321 3-3
Check-in experience:
Hard as it was to depart from the extraordinary Hotel Caruso Belvedere, the Orient-Express property sitting high on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, the drive to Naples International Airport was pleasant enough during the crossing of the scenic Peninsula of Sorrento. NAP is not as hectic a place as Italy's airports in Rome and Milan, and the departure experience with Lufthansa was relatively easy and efficient. Lufthansa kiosks allow passengers to check themselves in before dropping off their baggage with a human at the counter. The very pleasant Lufthansa employee who handled the last part of this process was the perfect embodiment of cheery Italian personality and a professional attitude.
Security and Airside:
The Security queue in Naples moved quickly, and the airport's airside facilities were good. A pleasant surprise in transit at the state of the art Munich Airport was the complimentary newspapers and hot drinks provided by Lufthansa at self-service bars in the Lufthansa Terminal.
Boarding:
Further reinforcing Munich Airport's status as one of the most advanced airports in the world, passengers with bar-coded boarding passes were able to board the flight directly by passing through an automated turnstile while others wade through the queue.
On-time performance: LH 1927 NAP-MUC left with a slight delay and arrived with a slight delay due to circumnavigation of thunderstorms en route. LH 2074 MUC-HAM departed on time and arrived a few minutes early.
Seat/Cabin conditions: The Airbus 321s were fitted with slimline seats, three on each side of the aisle, giving passengers a noticeable increase in legroom over standard seats without any reduction in comfort. The cabins on both flights were immaculately clean and well ventilated.
Food And Beverage:
Complimentary snacks and beverages, including wine, were distributed to passengers soon after departure.
Service: The crew on both flights were especially bright and breezy, full of smiles when working the cabin, giving a more positive impression of the flights than what had already been established by the check-in experience and the aircraft hardware.
Entertainment: No video entertainment on these short flights, but Lufthansa inflight magazine, Magazin, was entertaining enough with several interesting articles.
Arrival:
Arrival at final destination Hamburg was agreeable, with minimal time waiting for baggage to appear and the airport's train connection providing a fast, easy, and inexpensive transport option to reach the city centre.
Overview:
A first experience flying Lufthansa left a very positive impression. Lufthansa's extensive route network includes service to many destinations in Italy; the airline offers thus long-distance travellers from other continents easy access to some of that country's most beautiful destinations with a simple transfer in Munich or Frankfurt.
