Brits seek Vietnam’s winter sun

Monday, 17 September 2012

Vietnam is drawing more visitors from Britain for the winter sun season with 68 percent more Brits exchanging their pounds for Vietnamese Dong, according to a recent travel index.

Post Office Money results for the Fastest Growing Currency for Summer 2012 index revealed Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico are destination ‘hot spots’ with a spike in travellers ordering local currency for a holiday.

The boom in popularity of travellers seeking Vietnam to get a tan was fuelled by the introduction of direct flights last December and a host of new beach resorts opened in the area.

The 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games have drawn fresh attention to the South American host country Brazil with a 66 percent growth this summer.

Dropping from the top spot last year, Mexico managed to maintain momentum, placing at number three on the list.

Post Office head of Travel Money Andrew Brown, said it’s no coincidence that the destinations on the list are ones where sterling has most surged in value, with the boom in demand suggesting that travellers are watching exchange rates as well as seeking out keenly-priced packages before deciding on their destination.
