Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach is looking to transform itself over the next ten years and is asking the public for suggestions. The new vision sought for the well-known stretch of sand that attracts nearly two million visitors a year, has been devised by the local council for the beach, park, pavilion and promenade, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. A local politician has suggested the ageing pavilion could be transformed to accommodate emerging IT and creative businesses, expanding the push towards a “creative economy” for the area, which is currently trialling free Wi-Fi. Considerations are also being taken to introduce year-round ball sports (such as beach volleyball), where events took place during the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Traffic and parking will be a key issue with the council expected to consider the viability of underground parking to eliminate cars from the beachfront. |
