Melbourne’s distinctive luxury five-star hotel, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, has been honoured at last night’s World Travel Awards (WTAs) with not one but two of the most coveted awards available - Australia’s Leading Hotel and Australasia’s Leading Business Hotel. The magnitude of InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s achievement is significant. Palazzo Versace Gold Coast and the Park Hyatt Melbourne and Sydney were amongst 17 properties vying for the prestigious Australia’s Leading Hotel category. In the Australasia’s Leading Business Hotel category, local Melbourne contenders included the Grand Hyatt and Sofitel. Considered the travel industry’s ‘Oscars’ equivalent, the WTAs were established in 1993 to highlight and reward those travel brands that have made the greatest contribution to the sector over the preceding year. Nominees are voted on across the globe by travel professionals and consumers (some 791,358 votes were cast in 2011), with regional winners from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia, Africa and the Indian Ocean and the Americas going on to compete at the WTA’s Grand Final, set to take place in India in December 2012. Last night the Asia and Australasia regional gala ceremony was held at the InterContinental Singapore. Mr Arnaud Jairdon, GM of InterContinental Ko Samui, was delighted to accept the two awards on behalf of IHG stable-mate InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. Mr Jairdon, himself also a WTA award winner, accepted the award from Graham E. Cooke, Chairman and Founder of the WTA. Situated on Collins Street’s in one of the City’s most iconic buildings, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is distinctive for its external gothic façade and internal blend of modern interior design set against heritage listed architectural features. The entire team at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is committed to delivering a seamless service experience to all guests. The hotel caters for business travellers with state-of-the-art facilities and benchmark Club offerings. The extraordinarily accommodating and attentive concierges, three of which hold the prestigious Clef D’Or endorsement, also consistently impress leisure guests. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s GM, Mr Joerg T. Boeckeler, is convinced that the commitment and focus to an authentic service, which he instils across the hotel, plays an important part in the many accolades they receive from guests and travel industry stakeholders alike. “Our hotel is incredibly unique. Housed in an iconic Melbourne building, it is a quintessentially Melbourne experience that you don’t get at other hotels of our stature. We strive to remain relevant by listening to our guests and constantly applying their recommendations to better our offer every day. I truly believe that makes the difference,” says Mr Boeckeler. |
