High Style In The City's Jalan Ampang Embassy District

Well, this IS a surprise.  A house-like hotel in a bustling Asian capital?  A hotel where rooms open to the outside, with a front door in front and a swimming pool in back?  Actually, given that Villa Samadhi was a private home before becoming a gorgeous home away from home, it is not all that surprising that the atmosphere is distinctly private and low key—and guests wouldn't have it any other way.  And don't Australians love it here, constituting the #1 market among Villa Samadhi's clientele.

Using a smart blend of modern chic and Asian history, Villa Samadhi envelops its guests in the best of contemporary Asia.  Textured concrete and polished concrete themselves provide a sensorial canvas to show off the exquisite antiques; even the hardwood floors, made from aged, recycled wood with a history of its own, can be counted as works of art.  The statuary, lighting fixtures, and assorted other accessories perfectly balance the past and the present.

With only 21 very large rooms, including the top-floor Loft, Villa Samadhi keeps its numbers low and its ambience personalised.  Every room is different; some have private whirlpools, another has a kitchen, another an aquarium.  Individuality is part of the property's appeal and reflects the spirit of its owners, Federico and Maple Asaro, who are certainly two unique individuals.  Not your typical hotel owner, the beautiful and vivacious Maple graced the cover of Malaysia's justDance magazine last year in full pole-dance mode; she owns the Kuala Lumpur location of Sydney's famous Bobbi's Pole Studio and encourages women to use dance as a method to discover the power within.  One of those empowered women is Villa Samadhi's Resident Manager Cherie Al-Jufferey, who supervises the day-to-day operations of Villa Samadhi with an eagle eye, with the result that nothing is out of place, no detail is overlooked.  Ever.

Villa Samadhi and Japamala are two properties of the Asaros' Samadhi Retreats group, which also includes a number of popular restaurants (Tamarind Springs, Tamarind Hill, Neo Tamarind, Eco) in KL where various Asian cuisines are explored with a modern twist in beautiful surroundings.  Malaysian cuisine is one of Asia's most underappreciated, overshadowed by Thai, Chinese, and Indian yet incorporating aspects of all three to create a unique blend of pleasing tastes.  Guests at Villa Samadhi enjoy complimentary car service to any of the group's restaurants—just another of the nice perks offered, though dining 'at home' at Villa Samadhi's own Mandi Mandi is equally satisfying.
