Affectionately dubbed “Rambo Sambo”, Sam was the first intruder to make it so far along in the Big Brother house and had the ladies aflutter from day one.

The man who became known for being a nice guy in the house spoke to e-Travel Blackboard about his relationship with Layla and the “Justin Bieber effect” he’s had on fans.

e-Travel Blackboard: How did your first week out of the house feel?
Sam: Being out? It was amazing! I knew that as soon as I walked out of the door, I would miss it instantaneously.

e-Travel Blackboard: Did you get some time out at Dreamworld today?
Sam: I’ve just been doing signings and taking some photos which is really good...I played some laser skirmish and went on the new motorcycle ride...I’ll be back though.

e-Travel Blackboard: How did it feel to be an intruder that made it so far in the competition?
Sam: I was over the moon over how long I lasted. Being an intruder going in was quite hard, to break the relationships and what not, but, I did alright and I’m happy with how far I got...the experience was amazing.

e-Travel Blackboard: Big Brother seemed to have a plan with you coming into the house as a man that the ladies would want to spend time with. How did that make you feel?
Sam: Once I met the girls, it was all about the girls, but when I went in I kind of had to make the guys feel just as special. Win them over without being jealous, or intimidated. Just to go in and make them feel special, or equal.

e-Travel Blackboard: A lot of housemates complained about your penchant for cleaning, did you find that odd?
Sam: Yeah! I was cooking, I was cleaning! I often thought, since when is cleaning the house and being a nice guy a bad thing?

Even just watching back on some of the footage, you’ve just got to laugh at it because the thing is now, I kind of understand where they were coming from, because it makes them feel like they have to get up and do something when they don’t want to, so it made them feel uncomfortable and a little insecure.
So I totally get that and once I found out it was a problem, I kind of backed off a bit.

e-Travel Blackboard: From talking to some of the other housemates it seems that the smallest things can start to annoy you in the house, things you normally you wouldn’t care about in the outside world, did you find that?
Sam: Most definitely. Say you have conflict with somebody, it takes you a couple of days to resolve, but in the outside, you might just forget about it. It takes you more time to get over it, more so than it would out here.

e-Travel Blackboard: You and Layla have been tweeting quite a bit since leaving the house that you’ve been spending time together…how has your relationship changed since being on the outside?
Sam: It’s been great so far!

We were in Sydney the other day for a photo shoot and I took her on a first date, you know booked out a hotel and just had a bottle of wine and relaxed.
It was nice to sit and have a conversation when there were no cameras! The relationship is going quite well.

I still don’t know if it is a relationship, but you know, it’s definitely looking that way and it’s still very exciting.

We’ve been living together for quite a while so it feels like we have maybe broken up because we’re separated so much.

It feels like we’re just taking a break in our relationship, when that’s not the case at all, we’re just doing it normally.

It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, but I think we’re going to be fine. She’s a really lovely girl.

e-Travel Blackboard: What made you want to enter the Big Brother house in the first place?
Sam: Winning 250 thousand dollars, being on national TV, the whole experience seemed sensational and now I know.

I got a lot of people saying, “Sam should really do that” or, “Sam would be good on something like that”. So when I told my mum that I actually got in, she was not surprised one bit and I just thought, it’s better than sitting at home and doing nothing!

e-Travel Blackboard: What direction do you see yourself taking now that that experience is over?
Sam: Well, getting into the media and entertainment would just be amazing!

I’m not going back to work, you’ve only got really about three months before people kind of forget about you so, it’s just a matter of finding a good agent and looking straight ahead and trying to grab something.

It definitely beats waiting tables, you know? I want to make the most of it, it’s a big rollercoaster, I’ve just got to strap myself in.

e-Travel Blackboard: You may have noticed on Twitter today I put out a call for questions and most of the responses I received were women wanting to marry you…
Sam: It’s crazy how many people think you’re amazing just for being on there. I had one girl who said, “meeting you was better than meeting Justin Bieber!”

Not once do you ever look at yourself like a Justin Bieber figure! I even had a couple of girls cry today!

It’s so overwhelming and you don’t expect it. I’m out of the house now and I just feel as normal as I did before I went in the house but instead, you’ve got people running up to you wanting to have photos.

Layla’s going to have to beat them off with a stick!

e-Travel Blackboard: And vice-versa as well, I think! One of our readers, @nataliecirillo tweeted a question for you, “What did you miss most about the outside world?”
Sam: All the simple things in life. Like, being able to look at your wrist and know the time.

Little things like that, you know, music, surfing. I mean of course you miss your loved ones and stuff like that, but you miss being able to go to the cupboard and get food when you want, or go out and get whatever you want from the supermarket. It’s just the freedom thing.

e-Travel Blackboard: @twisdee82 tweeted, “How has your time in the Big Brother house changed you or your outlook on life?”
Sam: It’s just made me a little more mature. You know, being in the house you put yourself in a really mature situation all the time and it’s nice to know that now I can deal with situations like that. I think overall it’s just changed my outlook on life. I’m more mature, more aware and kind of know what I want to do.

e-Travel Blackboard: @sarahjg01 tweeted, “What would you have done with the money had you won?”
Sam: I would have started a café. I would have taken a big holiday and all the obvious stuff, of course, but I also would have donated a large amount of money to the Breast Cancer Foundation, just for the fact that it’s a great cause and my mum had breast cancer.

Also the Westpac Helicopters for the fact that we nearly lost my little sister when she was born, so you know, if it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t be here.

e-Travel Blackboard: How did you get that infamous scar on your head?
Sam: You know when you’re young and kids and your cranium is still soft? Well I slipped over on the concrete and smacked my head!

e-Travel Blackboard: What destination is on your bucket list to travel to?
Sam: Well, after talking to Layla, the Balearic Islands, of course, party central. But you know, Europe in general, Malta, the Italian coast, all of those beautiful places.

e-Travel Blackboard: Do you have a favourite destination that you would recommend our readers visit?
Sam: I’ve never travelled! I’ve only ever been to Thailand and that’s it! So.. I’ve got Bali booked next year in March and from there I was pretty much going to go on my Europe trip.

e-Travel Blackboard: What are three things that you must always travel with?
Sam: My watch. Parting with my watch when I went into the house made me feel naked and now I’m just trying to get used to it. You’d have to go watch, phone and wallet.
