The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has suffered scrutiny for its deficient security procedures.

A research report conducted by Bloomberg Businessweek has revealed frightening statistics, suggesting TSA security and safety measures are causing more fatalities than terrorism.

“These days, the TSA’s major role appears to be to make plane trips more unpleasant,” Bloomberg reported.

“By doing so, it is encouraging people to take the considerably more dangerous option of travelling by road.”

Terrorism accounted for less than 40 deaths out of a total 150,000 in the US between 2001 and 2010.

“Since 2000, the chance that a resident of the U.S. would die in a terrorist attack was one in 3.5 million,” University of Newcastle professors John Mueller and Mark Stewart said.

TSA's $8 billion budget was unable to stop terrorists from boarding US airlines, the report said.

The New York Times suggested the terrorist attacks of 9/11 caused $55 billion in “toll and physical damage”.

The ensuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, coupled with significant cost increases for homeland security and counterterrorism, mounted a $3.1 trillion bill for taxpayers, according to the report.
