Program highlights tourism as a great career choice

Friday, 30 November 2012

Opportunities to work in the tourism industry will be highlighted through a new television, mobile and tablet application that presents the lifestyle and workplace rewards offered by a career in tourism.

Multimedia program, WORKS.TV, presents work opportunities alongside the benefits of living in particular regions of Australia and working in the tourism industry.  As an industry partner in the project, ATEC welcomes the initiative as a way of repositioning the value of a career in tourism.

“This program goes beyond just identifying job vacancies, it presents a holistic view of the tourism industry in a particular area, or with a particular employer – most importantly, it repositions tourism as a rewarding career choice filled with great opportunities ,” ATEC Managing Director, Felicia Mariani said.

“People are able to get a good sense of the kind of work they will be doing, the culture of the organisation they might be working in and the growth and development opportunities that are presented by the industry through inspirational stories as told by people already engaged with the sector.”

WORKS.TV is a 30 minute program airing Monday at 8pm and Thursdays at 7.30pm on Channel 74 TV4ME broadcast nationally into metropolitan and regional markets.

“This multimedia program helps people develop a career in our industry, providing an overview of the various jobs in tourism, travel and hospitality and provides the capacity to connect to a team of specialists who can help them find work and understand their options,” Ms Mariani said.

WORKS.TV is a joint project between hospitality, retail and tourism training organisation, AVANA and Brand New Media, which produces innovative multi channel content formats for broadcasters and brands.

As an organisation experienced in the sector, AVANA supports the program by providing expert career advice and connections to available job opportunities.

AVANA CEO, Mark Hutchinson said the first featured segment of the program resulted in more than 170 inquiries from interested job seekers.

“This is a content rich environment where people really get a feel for the work and the lifestyle elements connected to a job in the tourism sector, as well as acting as an overall promotional tool for both businesses and tourism regions,” Mr Hutchinson said.

“Importantly it provides a direct connection to recruitment staff who understand the jobs, the skills required and where the opportunities are – helping to build strong connections between the employer and employee from the outset.”

Video stories on a range of hospitality and tourism job’s is available online at www.works.tv where people can also get in contact with a consultant.  Job seekers can also contact 1300 542 315 for more information.
