Music industry royalty at Palmer Coolum Resort

Tuesday, 4 December 2012

A SINGER-SONGWRITER considered by many to be Australian musical royalty will grace the stage at Palmer Coolum Resort on 11 December in what is primed to be a very special evening for music lovers.

Perhaps best known for his time as the front-man for Aussie icons the Little River Band, Glenn Shorrock is rightly revered by colleagues and fans alike for his enormous contribution to the domestic music industry.

Shorrock was born in England but moved to Australia with his family when just ten-years-old, settling in South Australia. In 1962 he formed his first band and began a performing career that is still going strong today.

After spells with ‘Axiom’ and ‘The Twilights’ Shorrock helped form Little River Band in late 1974 in a move that sparked an amazing run of success. Eight top ten hits in the US put the band on the map and they went on to sell a remarkable 25 million albums worldwide.

Little River Band are often credited as the trailblazers who opened the door for many other Australian acts to gain international recognition. Little wonder then that Shorrock is both respected and admired by his peers and has twice been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame - once in 1991 in his own right and again with the Little River Band in 2004.

He was also honoured by APRA (Australian Performing Right Association) in 2001 when they named the Shorrock-penned ‘Cool Change’ as one of the top 30 Australian songs of all time.

His talents have extended to starring roles in the ‘Rocky Horror Show’, ‘Evita’ and ‘All You Need Is Beatles’ which he produced and performed in alongside the legendary Sir George Martin.

More recently he performed in ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top’ reunion tour and held a mini concert for an intimate cruise audience on a tour of the Yangtze River in China.

Shorrock will share the bill with Leo Sayer when the two musical legends perform at Palmer Coolum Resort on 11 December in a night that is a must-see for music fans of all ages.
