Abu Dhabi is taking on The Great Pyramid of Giza, with the construction of the world’s biggest sculpture.

Looking eerily similar to Egypt’s greatest tourism weapon, the 150 metre flat-topped pyramid is expected to be made out 400,000 multi-coloured oil barrels and cost up to $325 million to build, News.com.au reported.

Designed by Bulgarian-born artist, Christo, the sculpture will be built in the desert 161 kilometres away from Abu Dhabi and take up to 30 months to complete.

Although Christos said the idea for the sculpture was put together more than 30 years ago, conflict in the region prevented the piece from receiving approval.

"When the sun rises, the vertical wall will become almost full of gold," Christo said.

Christo is reportedly working with the crown prince’s elder brother, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nayhan to built the project.
