CATO welcomes the announcement that the Consumer Affairs Ministers have approved the implementation of the Travel Industry Transition Plan (TITP). For a number of years we have shared the view that the current licensing system was inadequate and needed updating. We congratulate AFTA and in particular CEO Jayson Westbury for the work and effort put in over the past four years. It is now time for all sectors of travel to unite and work towards a fair, efficient and competitive industry with an industry lead accreditation scheme. This, underpinned by the ACCC sanctioned industry code of conduct and supported by Australian Consumer Law will promote both trustworthiness and integrity within the industry. CATO looks forward to continuing to work with AFTA and the Government to ensure there is appropriate disclosure of consumer risk in agency transactions and in developing commercial solutions to address business insolvency. |
