Adventure travellers Cas and Jonesy make history

Adventurers James Castrission ‘Cas’ and Justin Jones ‘Jonesy’  today made history setting the record for the first duo ever to ski unsupported from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back.

During 88 days in some of the heaviest snowfalls recorded in Antarctica, Expedition Gold Sponsor Travelscene American Express has been keeping close contact with the pair and the Expedition Support team throughout the trek.

Travelscene American Express General Manager Jacqui Timmins said the pair did not once stop believing they would succeed.

“It was looking touch and go there for a little while with almost two weeks of white-out days and winds up to 70km/hr and just four rest days across the entire trek yet even though this has proved much, much harder than they imagined,” Ms Timmins said.

“The fact that they couldn’t ski at all two years ago didn’t stop them setting out to create their own history.

“They partnered with the best to form an expedition team with the necessary expertise, knowledge and support and Travelscene American Express is extremely proud to have been involved as a Gold Sponsor.”

Ms Timmins said Cas and Jonesy are extremely grateful for all the encouragement and support received from Travelscene American Express and that without their involvement the pair are adamant the expedition would not have happened.

On the top of the agenda for 29 year old Cas and 28 year old Jonesy is a warm meal followed by a good sleep in a comfortable bed.

Both Cas and Jonesy have lost over 55 kilos during the Crossing the Ice Expedition and share a craving for steak and fresh fruit.

They are now on their way to a well-deserved stop-over in Buenos Aires ahead of their return to Sydney in early February.

Cas and Jonesy are also looking to raise money to fight youth cancer, you can sponsor a step and support the You Can campaign via the Cass and Jonesy website.
