Every time I come to Melbourne I find something new to love about the city. Brunswick Street thrilled me on my first visit; last time it was a small Chinese restaurant on Little Bourke Street; and on this occasion, it is the Clarion Suites Gateway. Stylishly refurbished, the all-suite 4½ star Clarion Suites is superbly located on the banks of the Yarra River - far enough away from bustling Swanston Street to offer a peaceful stay yet close enough to the city’s famous nooks and crannies for those in search of a big night out. And if that’s not enough, the Crown Entertainment Complex lies directly across the river - so close in fact, that one can even feel the gentle warmth of the famous Southbank torches from the hotel’s balconies. And looking up or down the river from those terraces, the views are spectacular. A quick perusal of Trip Advisor, where the property ranks a highly impressive #14 out of 204 hotels in Melbourne, reveals what most guests love about the hotel: its excellent value, the modern rooms, the comfortable beds and those views. But what makes this place exceptional is its staff. From check in til check out (sob, sob …), the friendly folk at the Clarion make you feel like you have entered a home away from home. Helpful, without being assertive, the staff at Clarion Suites will point even the most frequent of visitors to the city in the direction of something new, like the chic bar that has just opened or the cool boutiques yet to be explored. And if staying in is more your thing, there’s complimentary gym access, an indoor heated swimming pool, Williams Bar and Café and 24-hour room service to go with the 42" LCD TV with Foxtel. Or you may like to simply make use of the suites’ kitchen facilities. Endowed with a function room the envy of conference facilities across the city, the Clarion Suites Gateway is also the perfect place for meetings and small events. Affording outstanding views from its perch on the 17th floor, the Yarra View Room offers a unique alternative to the average function space. With Melbourne’s best attractions and the city’s charming trams on its doorstep, the Clarion Suites truly is a ‘Gateway’ to a city I love. |
