Aussies jetting off spontaneously, unprepared: TNS

Monday, 2 April 2012

Australian travellers are jetting off on holidays less prepared and more spontaneously, according to a new study.

A TNS Domesticate Study released last month found that Aussies who travelled in 2011 decided to forego the traditional planning of a trip and instead opting to use technology while on the road to find locations, attractions and accommodation.

“Australian travellers are increasingly sharing their domestic travel experiences whilst on route, using tools like Facebook photos and check-ins,” TNS Travel and Leisure director Jo Farquhar said.

“From our research, it’s safe to say that usage of these tools will only increase as more travellers gain access to smartphones and as mobile data prices decrease.”

In order to keep up with social media posts, travellers are also leaving the house with a bundle of devices, according to the survey including mobile phones, cameras, video and GPS devices, laptops as well as charges for all outlined.

Although more travellers are rushing out of the house with little prepared, the survey also found that jetsetters still value the work and service of traditional booking forms including travel agents.
