Recent statistics from Tourism Australia reveals more Australian families are relishing on camping holidays with campers spending A$5.4 billion per year on caravan and camping holidays.
According to Tourism Australia more than half of Australian campers are young families who enjoy the flexibility a camping holiday offers, the SMH reported.
A recent snapshot report conducted by Tourism Australia showed Australia has over 1600 caravan parks which employs 10,600 people and adds A$50million into the economy.
Happy campers the Jordans from South Australia are holidaying with their daughters at the Queanbeyan Riverside Tourist Park which they have travelled to with their 1980s Jayco caravan.
“A caravan is a cheaper option, and more fun for the kids, most caravan parks have playgrounds and plenty of space for kids to ride bikes,” Mr Jordan said.
Quanbeyan Riverside Tourist Park owner Kevin Pritzler recently conducted a report on the tourist parks contribution to the NSW regional town’s economy and found the estimate to be in excess of A$4million a year, possibly as high as $8 million.
“We’re seeing a new generation of family campers, and also a younger grey nomad – a lot of these are public servants who can work anywhere around Australia on their laptops,” Mr Pritzler said.“There’s no need for them to be tied to an office,” He added.
