Political initiatives and recently announced funding for tourism and major events in the Northern Territory Budget are key to the region’s success, according to tourism leaders. Following the Government’s announcement to put funds aside to help the region host AFL matches and other events, Accommodation Association of Australia chief executive Richard Munro said the commitment would help boost “an important source of income”.“The accommodation industry welcomes the funding that has been committed to host AFL matches in the NT, the Government’s financial support for the 2012 Masters Games in Alice Springs and the Arafura Games in May next year, as well as the ongoing commitment to a round of the V8 Supercars in the NT,” Mr Munro said. “It is also pleasing that the Budget has specifically allocated funding for the local tourism industry to improve its readiness for greater numbers of visitors from China.” |
