Brisbane Airport passengers are enjoying a faster and easier self service check-in as the airport uses a new bag-drop system that allows passengers to drop off their bags in less than 25 seconds. With the latest systems from technology provider SITA and baggage handling specialist BCS Group, SITA has begun its initial phase of the service. Jetstar’s domestic passengers were among the first to use this new technology, however as it progresses it will be available to other airlines flying both domestically and internationally. To use the new service passengers simply check in at the kiosk, attach the bag tag then drop the bag at the self-service bag drop station to be automatically processed. This process involves the bag being weighed, and then the tag is scanned measured and dispatched for the flight. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) general manager strategic planning and development Roel Hellemons said that the financial year was another record year for the airport with over 21 million passengers using the terminal. “Peak times are already busy and will only become busier so we are committed to using the best technology to improve operations, enhance the passenger experience and to make optimum use of the space we have available,” Mr Hellemons said. |
