Sophisticated Travellers At Home In A Privileged Position

Located on the shore of Lake Geneva in the charming town of Vevey,  Hôtel des Trois Couronnes has been a favourite place to stay since the days of the Grand Tour when British aristocrats passed through on their way to Italy.    Some of them stayed for extended periods and soon thereafter Vevey became well known among Europe's wealthy classes.  One of Switzerland's most historic hotels, Trois Couronnes, whose name means 'three crowns', remains a favourite for travellers seeking comfort and quietude in a sublime location.

From its private courtyard on rue d'Italie, the hotel resembles a grand private mansion; that feeling continues inside with the sofas and chairs of the welcoming lobby creating an ambience more of a living room than do the lobbies of busy tower hotels with hundreds of rooms.  With its 25 junior suites and full suites constituting more than one-third of the hotel's 71-room inventory, Hôtel des Trois Couronnes guests prefer large spaces and home-like environments to standard rooms of chain hotels.  As are the rooms, the suites here are different in layout and design.  A restored wing of the building opened a few years ago provided the addition of high-style contemporary rooms to complement the traditional-style rooms that already existed in the rest of the building.

Despite Vevey's prime location on the stunning Swiss Riviera between Lausanne and Montreux, the town is surprisingly unknown to international visitors.  Though small in size, Vevey has several interesting attractions worthy of a visit, including a splendid camera museum, a Russian orthodox church, an atmospheric historical museum, and the Nestlé-owned Alimentarium museum of food.  Nestlé's word headquarters is located in Vevey, and the company's many employees from all over the world make the town's small population very cosmopolitan.  On Tuesdays and Saturdays, Vevey's main square is home to a large market where the panorama of Lake Geneva and the French Alps on the other side make for what must be one of the most scenic markets in the world.

Vevey is at the eastern end of Switzerland's UNESCO World Heritage historic Lavaux terraced vineyards which descend right to the shores of Lake Geneva.  Wine has long been an important aspect of life in Vevey, and to this day the town hosts the pageantry of the Fête des Vignerons.  This Vintners' Festival takes place only once every generation; the last one was held in 1999, so be on the watch for this extremely rare event to be taking place again in the coming years.
