Value for money and affordable hospitality are driving more Aussies to increase their stay in Germany, according to the German Tourist Office Australia.
According to the tourist bureau’s director of sales and marketing Susann Schwachenwalde, Australian overnight stays in Germany for July this year were higher than Germany’s total overnight stays from overseas, with a 10.2 percent rise compared to the same period last year to a total of 89,017 stays.
Meanwhile, between January and July overnight stays picked up by 8.4 percent on the same period 2011.
Ms Schwachenwalde attributed the rise to the strong Aussie dollar and affordable accommodation.
“Germany continues to offer great value for money, particularly through its affordable hospitality services,” she explained.
Germany is currently the fourth most popular European destination for Australian visitors, with 90 percent of Aussies travelling to the country for holidays and visiting family and friends.
