Vinaka Fiji Trust benefits from Melbourne’s “Exclusively Bollywood”

Friday, 26 October 2012

Jyoti Singh’s “Exclusively Bollywood” charity event raised a generous $8,500 for Vinaka Fiji, a trust that assists Fijian villagers living in the remote Yasawa Islands. “This money will be gratefully received by the people of the Yasawas. With this amount we can install five 10,000 litre tanks” says Leigh Efferion, Manager of Vinaka Fiji Trust.

Held in Melbourne last weekend, the Bollywood extravaganza featured a divine Indian feast, entertainment, music, dancing and auctions running late into the night. Blue Lagoon Cruises generously donated a luxury cruise package, Tanoa International provided nights in Nadi, Navutu Stars Resort three gorgeous nights and just to top it all off, luxury nights in an exclusive Sydney hotel rounded out an exciting auction.

“Exclusively Bollywood” was sponsored and arranged by generous ex-Suva resident Jyoti Singh who was born and raised in Fiji but now lives in Melbourne. Ms Singh has personally seen the challenges that villagers experience living without basic necessities such as water and wanted to do something to help those living in her original homeland.

Based on the success of the Bollywood fundraiser, Vinaka Fiji hopes to hold a similar event in Sydney in the new year. The Vinaka Fiji Trust supports remote villages in the Yasawa Islands Fiji helping them access to water, education, health and power.
