Tourism leaders back Heathrow expansion

Wednesday, 7 November 2012

More than a third of tourism bosses in the UK say they back plans to add another runway at Heathrow Airport over the development of another gateway, according to a new study.

A World Travel Market study of the 1,300 bosses survey found only 20 percent of industry leaders said they supported the Thames Estuary airport, while 34 percent preferred to see extra space built at the existing airport, BBC News reported.

The research company’s director Simon Press said it was clear what industry leaders wanted in aviation, particularly with participants asking for expansions at other airports in south-east England over a completely new facility.

Plans for a third runway have even received backing from the country’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, who said he would not give a “veto” on the issue.
