Carnival Cruise Lines has announced additional features aboard Carnival Sunshine in the biggest ship makeover the line has ever seen. Entering a 49-day dry dock in Italy next year, the makeover will cost the line USD$155 million dollars and will see the ship will re-enter service in April 2013 sailing on an inaugural season of Mediterranean itineraries. A 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing will take Carnival Sunshine from Barcelona to New Orleans where she will be based year-round sailing on seven-day Caribbean itineraries. New features unveiled include; Havana Bar By night, the bar will transform into a Cuban-inspired courtyard complete with live music and themed cocktails. The interior will feature palm trees, elegant archways and vibrant tile work, along with floor-to-ceiling windows. WaterWorks The all-new racing-themed WaterWorks will offer five different waterslides and 40 different interactive water features including a 300-gallon drenching bucket in the SplashZone children’s area. Carnival’s newest slides, the ‘Speedway Splash’, will give passengers the opportunity to race down dual side-by-side 71.6 metre (235 feet) slides with racers’ times displayed on a scoreboard and special effects adding to the experience. The fully enclosed ‘Twister’ waterslide will be the line’s longest at 101.8 metres (334 feet) and will feature a clear section that extends over the side of the ship. Asian Restaurant A full-service Asian restaurant will feature an open kitchen offering delicacies including; soups, appetisers, noodles, rice dishes, seafood and meat dishes. Complimentary at lunch, passengers will incur a USD$12 per person charge for dinner. Shake Spot A relaxed milkshake bar, the ‘Shake Spot’ will offer hand-crafted milkshakes, floats, tropical fruit shakes and “adult” shakes and floats made with liqueurs including Grand Marnier and Cointreau. The island-inspired venue will also offer an all-inclusive ‘Shake Lover’s Package’. JavaBlue Cafe Offering an array of coffee and sweets including; extra-large cinnamon buns, giant cupcakes and red velvet cake all designed for sharing, the ‘JavaBlue Cafe’ will be located adjacent to the ‘Shake Spot’ on Promenade Deck. Pizzeria del Capitano An expansion of the line’s ‘Cucina del Capitano’ family-style Italian restaurant, the 24-hour pizzeria will feature an open kitchen complete with traditional pizza oven. Five different kinds of complimentary Italian-style thin crust pizzas will be on the menu including; margherita, pepperoni, quattro formaggio, mushroom and prosciutto. Carnival Sunshine will also feature the entire ‘Fun Ship 2.0’ offering including; ‘Guy’s Burger Joint’, ‘RedFrog Rum Bar’, ‘RedFrog Pub’, ‘BlueIguana Tequila Bar’, ‘BlueIguana Cantina’, ‘EA Sports Bar’, ‘Alchemy’, ‘Hasbro, The Game Show’ and ‘Playlist Productions’. She will also offer the line’s largest three-level Serenity adults-only retreat, complete with a pool, waterfall and full bar and the SportSquare featuring a ropes course and a zip line.
