From the new live music festival, Trevor, a picturesque Churchill Island performance from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, promoting environmental awareness at the inaugural Shearwater Festival, to the thrill of the World Superbikes and the ultimate endurance race, Tough Mudder, there is a whole island of adventure to discover at Phillip Island this summer.
THE SHEARWATER FESTIVAL: CELEBRATING BIYADIN – November 24 & 25, 2012 Celebrate cross-cultural connections and environmental awareness at the first Indigenous Shearwater Festival on Phillip Island. At the heart of the festival is a celebration of the 15 000km migration of short-tailed shearwaters from the Aleutian Islands near Alaska to Australia. Ranger guided walks into the shearwater colony will be held at dawn and dusk to witness the daily arrival and departure of the birds from foraging at sea. Music, dance, art exhibitions and Aboriginal story-telling will also be held across the weekend.

PYRAMID ROCK FESTIVAL – December 29 – January 1 For the ninth massive year in a row, Pyramid Rock Festival returns to Phillip Island to bring in the New Year. This year’s bill features a majority of homegrown acts including Illy, Dead Letter Circus, Xavier Rudd and Luke Million joining international acts Friendly Fires, Blood Red Shoes, The Cribs and more, ensuring Pyramid Rock 2012 will be another New Year’s extravaganza.

TREVOR, a music festival – January 12, 2013 Churchill Island is set to host a music festival with a difference in January 2013. Blending music, markets, food stalls and kids’ activities, Trevor will be a fun and laidback island afternoon that the whole family can enjoy. Joining Trevor for an afternoon of frivolity is Ash Grunwald, The Bamboos, The Pierce Brothers, The Brow Horn Orchestra, Sweet Jean and Australian music legends, Icehouse. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Westernport Bay, the festivities include a children’s tent with movies, activities and face-painting.

TOUGH MUDDER – January 19 & 20, 2013 After hosting the first ever Tough Mudder event in Australia and more entrants than any other competition on the planet, probably the toughest event on the planet, Tough Mudder returns to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in January 2013. The extreme 20 km obstacle course that was developed by the British Special Forces delivers the ultimate test of physical endurance and mental toughness includes 3.6m-high walls, muddy trenches, 1.2m-high flames, ice-cold water and a range of intense new obstacles for 2013.

CHURCHILL ISLAND KIDS FESTIVAL – January 26-28, 2013 Phillip Island Nature Parks are holding the 2013 Churchill Island Kids Festival at Churchill Island over the Australia Day long weekend, with performances from some of the kid’s favourites, including Dorothy the Dinosaur and friends, Peppa Pig and Ben 10 and Gwen! Each day at 11am and 1pm they will be performing, and meeting and greeting visitors at noon. Further activities that the whole family can enjoy include face painting, games, farming demonstrations and more with delicious food on offer to keep the energy levels going for a weekend of fun.

SAN REMO CHANNEL CHALLENGE – January 27, 2013 The San Remo Channel Challenge is a 550metre swim across the Channel starting at the fishing village of San Remo with the swim finish at Newhaven. Competitors must complete the swim during the slack waters of the high tide before a 2 kilometer scenic run back to San Remo over the Phillip Island Bridge to the finish line.

AUSTRALIAN MOTORCYCLE NEWS ISLAND CLASSIC – January 25-27, 2013 In 2013, the Australian Motorcycle News Island Classic celebrates its 20th consecutive year, and Italian multi-time world champion Grand Prix motorcycle racer Giacomo Agostini will be attending the celebrations. As Australia’s largest historic motorcycle race, competitors from around the world will race and motor enthusiasts can even camp on grounds to stay as close to the action as possible.

MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PERFORMS AT CHURCHILL ISLAND – February 2, 2013
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performs for the first time at Phillip Island this February with a beautiful outdoor concert on the lawns of Churchill Island Heritage Farm. Visitors can soak up the bay views and treat the taste buds to the fine food and wine of the Gippsland region as conductor Benjamin Northey leads the orchestra through classics from Rossini, Puccini, Tchaikovsky and more.

COWES CLASSIC AND PHILLIP ISLAND PENGUIN SWIM CLASSIC– 9-10 February, 2013 Athletic enthusiasts can try their hand at a Bass Coast biathlon and compete in the Cowes Classic, which comprises of a 500 metre swim around the Cowes Pier and a four kilometre run. If swimming is a stronger suit, the Phillip Island Penguin Swim Classic is the following day, and involves a two kilometre current-assisted swim near the Cowes foreshore.
