Coyne cops ‘Flaming Lip’ over customs quandary

Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne causes airport shutdown.

“The flight left without me, all because of Wayne Coyne,” a disgruntled passenger said after The Flaming Lips singer attempted to pass an unexploded grenade through customs at Will Rogers Airport Oklahoma.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the Oklahoma City airport after Wayne Coyne sent a golden-plated grenade through the x-ray machine, causing a full lockdown.

Mr Coyne admitted he had “not quite thought” about the risks of taking a grenade on a plane but blamed the airport’s “bureaucracy” for the disruptions that followed.

“I would agree that it was stupid of me, but I don't feel wholly responsible if people missed their flights,” Mr Coyne told The Sun.

“I'm not making the rules... It's not illegal for me to have that grenade with me.”

Coyne was released without charge and may have lost a few fans following the incident.
