More travellers are looking to step-away from the check-in counter in the hopes of “doing it for themselves”, with 66 percent more passengers preferring to use self-boarding this year compared to last year. According to recent SITA/ATW Passenger Self-Service Survey, the rising trend was worldwide, however, passengers from São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport were looking for the most independence while travelling, with 90 percent preferring to use self-boarding. “We have learned from our work around the world, that once self-service is widely available and well-promoted, the public respond with enthusiasm,” SITA account director Elbson Quadros said. Self-service was also favored across other platforms of travel this year, with more passengers wanting to serve themselves via kiosk, web and mobile. When it comes to searching for a flight and receiving updates, more than 80 percent of passengers said they would prefer it sent straight to their mobile, while 82 percent would like to use their phone to navigate their way across the airport. |
