United restructures management, appoints new chairman

  United realigns leadership to “most effectively” meet opportunities of the next phase.

As part of its post-merger with Continental, United Continental Holdings has realigned its senior management team and board.

As part a mean of “most effectively” meeting opportunities of the next phase, the Board of Directors appointed United chief executive Jeff Smisek as chairman.

Effective 31 December this year, Mr Smisek will replace outgoing chairman, Glenn Tilton, who will remain as a member of the board.

In addition, the carrier introduced new leadership roles, including the position of vice chairman and chief revenue, to be assumed by Jim Compton as well as EVP marketing, technology and strategy, to be held by Jeff Foland.
