New Chair to take Indigenous reference group forward
ATEC's National Indigenous Tourism Task Force (NITTF) has appointed prominent industry leader, Johnny Edmonds, to the Chair's role.
Mr Edmonds brings significant insight and experience in the indigenous tourism space from his current role as the CEO of the West Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) - which provides a collective voice for Indigenous operators in WA.
"ATEC is pleased to have someone of Johnny's calibre on the NITTF - helping us to better understand and advocate for Indigenous operators across Australia," ATEC Managing Director, Felicia Mariani said.
"His involvement with the Taskforce builds on the connection ATEC has already developed with WAITOC through a recently signed MoU and WAITOC's strong support for the inaugural Pacific Asia Indigenous Tourism Conference (PAITC) held earlier this year in Darwin.
"These kinds of partnerships and connections are pivotal to building strong and long lasting outcomes for Indigenous operators and Johnny, along with the other highly credentialed members of the Taskforce, are well placed to achieve this goal."
Ms Mariani said Wes Millar, Executive Chairman of Nitmiluk Tours, had been appointed Vice Chair of NITTF which would be looking to focus on nurturing and supporting operators to achieve sustainability of Indigenous product and encouraging mentoring for businesses to grow and expand their capacity.
