The luck of the Irish has helped make the European island nation the fastest growing international destination for Australian travellers in 2012. Ireland topped the list of top ten fastest growing destinations for Australians, with Myanmar and the Philippines trailing close behind, as revealed in Skyscanner’s 2012 travel trend report. The top inbound travellers to Australia came from the United Kingdom, with Italians and Kiwis following closely in second and third place respectively. China was ranked as the fastest growing destination for New Zealand tourists. Australians remained the number one travellers to New Zealand, with Germany and China in hot pursuit. The majority of Australian’s didn’t look too far for a holiday in 2012, as domestic travel received the nod for top destination, with the United Kingdom and United States as runners up. The report’s results also showed that booking just 72 days in advance was a common trait shared by both Australians and Kiwi’s, as was the average length of a holiday, ten days. “There were many surprising results in the 2012 trends but in rounding up our report we discovered that 22 December 2012 was the most popular booking day to date, stamping out any ideas that Aussies and Kiwis believe the world will end just the day before,” Skyscanner market development manager Australia and New Zealand Dave Boyte said. |
