Queensland Rail Tees Up Golf Extravaganza With Cricket And Golfing Greats

Friday, 20 July 2012

If you want to take on some of Queensland’s best golf courses and play a round with some Queensland sports legends, then book a place on Queensland Rail Travel’s golf getaways.

The packages are led by the likes of former US PGA champion, Wayne Grady; ex-Australian cricket captain, Allan Border; as well as former international cricketers Greg Ritchie and Jimmy Maher.

These packages are another example of Queensland Rail Travel designing themed events for customers, following on from the success of its food and wine MasterClass journeys.

The only driver customers will need is the one you pull out of your golf bag on the first tee at Hamilton Island Golf Club or Paradise Palms in Cairns, as Queensland Rail Travel looks after all transport needs, whether it be by train, plane, or boat.

The fly-train-drive-chip-putt packages come in two forms; a 4-day Capricorn Golf Getaway to Yeppoon and Rockhampton; while the 10-day Coastal Golf’n’Rail Adventure allows you take on courses in Cairns, Hamilton Island, and the Sunshine Coast.

Queensland Rail Travel General Manager, Max Kruse, said the trips are an opportunity of a lifetime for golfers of all standards.

“Special packages like this don’t come up very often, so if you want to put your game to the test on some of the best layouts in the country, then you had better get in quick,” Mr Kruse said.

“Not many people get the opportunity to play a round with a former major winner, like Wayne Grady, so this is your chance to go around 18 holes with one of the greats of Australian golf.

“The 10-day package includes a round at Hamilton Island Golf Club, which is situated on Dent Island, just a short ferry ride away from the main resort.

“This is the only championship island golf course in Australia, so it really is a unique experience.”

“Guys like Allan Border, Jimmy Maher and Greg Ritchie will be a lot of fun to tour with, so I suggest anyone looking for a great golf holiday look no further than these packages.”

The 4-day Capricorn Golf Getaways depart Brisbane on July 20 and September 7, while the 10-day Coastal Golf’n’Rail Adventures leave on August 2 and November 17.
