"Uncle" Tom Moffatt

Tuesday, 7 August 2012

If Elvis is the king of rock n’ roll, then “Uncle” Tom Moffatt has to be Hawaii’s king of entertainment.

"Uncle" Tom interviews Elvis on arrival into Honolulu for the "Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite" concert.

For over fifty years he has brought some of the best performers to Honolulu. From Elvis Presley to Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson to the Rolling Stones, the name Tom Moffatt has truly become synonymous with the term entertainment.

Starting his career as a radio DJ with KIKI before becoming a ‘Poi Boy’ at K-Poi Honolulu, it was “Uncle Tom” who scored the first interview with Elvis on his return from service in Germany.

His smooth voice and personable nature helped to shape early rock n’ roll radio in the Islands and he has added many feathers in his cap since as a TV show host, event promoter, record producer, music publisher and author.

“Uncle” Tom even started Honolulu’s first teen nightclub!

e-Travel Blackboard was honoured to spend some time in Hawaii earlier in the year with the man named as one of the most influential people in the history of Honolulu.
